Addressing social issues related to alcohol

Manufacturers of alcoholic beverages have a social responsibility to prevent violations of laws and regulations, such as underage drinking and drunk driving, and to foster a responsible drinking environment, given that alcoholic beverages are known to cause intoxication.

As one example, the " The Japan Liquor Industry Council," whose members include organizations in the alcoholic beverage industry, has established "VOLUNTARY CODE FOR THE ADVERTISING AND MARKETING OF ALCOHOL BEVERAGES AND THE LABELLING OF ALCOHOL BEVERAGE CONTAINERS," which stipulate that "expressions that lead to excessive drinking" should not be used. Furthermore, the association supports activities promoting responsible drinking, such as the "Ten Guidelines for Responsible Drinking" established by the Alcohol Health and Medical Association in 1980, and strives to promote responsible drinking by distributing and displaying posters created by the association.
